Workshops From Past Events
Great Times
Archaeology Rocks!
Outside activity - dress appropriately: Indiana Jones and Lara Croft make good fiction, but if you’re interested to know what a real archaeologist does, we have got the workshop for you! Join us for some hands‐on experience conducting a mini-excavation of artifacts, making your own rock art, and even learning to throw a spear with an atlatl just like prehistoric Native Americans used to hunt mammoths. Archeologists Nancy Pahr and Tracy Buday will lead you on your own archaeological adventure to better understand the past, as well as this incredible field of study.

Blast Off!
Outside activity - dress appropriately - So you want to be a rocket scientist? Brandi Dunnington will lead a workshop in aerodynamics and rocket science. Shoot water rockets and learn about acceleration, projectile motion, and the practice of true engineering. See how high your rockets can fly!
Flight of Fancy
Join Computer Scientist Aleta Johnson to learn about the four forces of flight and how aircraft wings produce lift. Learn how planes without engines can fly over 200 kilometers per an hour, cover distances over 2000 kilometers, and stay in the air for longer than 10 hours.

Silver Mirror
Chemistry isn't always invisible reactions. Come and see chemicals react with Chemical Engineer Ann Gamboa, Mathematician Elisabeth Hinkle, andMechanical Engineer Jessa Reichers. The reaction indicates what type of chemical bond is present. The reaction will create a silver mirror that you can take home in your own test tube and pendant.
Take off with Paper Airplanes
Students learn the different airplane parts and then develop and build a paper airplane design using special materials. The designs are tested for distance and flight time. The engineers with the best performance win a prize!

Get Wired
Electrical Engineers, Melissa Wallace and Ciarra Cornelius will lead girls in learning about breadboard basics to light up an LED and get the chance to see what happens when different electrical components come into play.
Storm the Castle
Catapults were the weapon of choice in the Middle Ages. Mechanical Engineer Ann Marie Frappier will lead a workshop where you will study the "physics and engineering" that goes into the design and construction of a catapult and how these affect the range of your catapult. See if your team can launch the projectile the farthest and hit the target to win the prize!

Heart of the Matter
Ever wonder what the inside of a heart looks like? Dr. Mongar will be bringing in a cows heart so we can learn more about that complex organ that keeps us alive.
Explore a little more
Architecture: An Exercise in Form and Space
Join Leaders Denise Mahoney and Tim Dotson along with their assistants: Kayla Mollon and Nicholas Corrao as we look at Architectural Design and Conceiving and Constructing Form and Space
Colors of the Cosmos
Outside activity - dress appropriately -Introduction to astronomy with emphasis on stellar spectral classes. The audience will be painting a constellation of their choice with the stars’ spectral class as a guide.
Fly Math
We have a big mission to complete and the mathematical tools to get it done. We just need young creative minds to join our Fly Team to ensure mission success. Join Mathmatician Tia Baker as we stretch the boundaries of our minds and bodies exploring new and strange mathematical frontiers and aim to solve the problems that will help save the world!
Shhh It's a Secret
Shhhh! It’s a Secret:
Join Professor of Computer Science, Debby Kurti in the Super Secret Science Systems Lab (4S Labs). 4S Labs develops the world’s coolest and most dangerous assets. Your mission, should you choose to accept, is to create suitable safeguards for the safe-keeping of our secret systems. We will be using the latest in open electronics platforms, robotic sensors, and computer programming tools. Are you up to the challenge?
Kitchen Chemistry
Bet you never thought science could taste this good! Technical Writer Traci Heston and Systems Engineer Rebecca Ragazzon are here to tell you about the chemical reactions that turn simple ingredients into a tasty treat. There are Cookies - Possible allergies
Seabees, Can Do? Can you?
The Navy's Construction Battalion's Motto, "With compassion for others, we build, we fight, for peace with freedom." And you thought joining the Navy only meant working and living on ships. Come meet LCDR Dawn Robens, Navy Civil Engineer Corps Officer to learn more about Women in the Navy and Civil Engineer Corps. Come get some hands on building experience.
Butterflies and Birds
Become a predatorial selector when joining Biologist Nikki Wrecker in her workshop. We will provide a hands on approach to learn about natural selection.
Mix it Up
Chemist Kelly Alder will demonstrate basic chemistry practices while creating a fun experiment out of common ingredients. It's an opportunity to get your hands dirty and learn about chemistry at the same time.
